Living Labs (LLs): Innovating for Sustainable Dairy

Living Labs (LLs) are a cornerstone of TransformDairyNet, empowering farmers and stakeholders to collaboratively address challenges in transitioning to Cow-Calf Contact (CCC) systems. With funding of up to €8,000 per LL, up to 11 Living Labs (one per National Innovation Practice Hub) will co-create and test practical solutions, accelerating innovation and sustainability in dairy farming.

How LLs Work:

  1. Identify Needs: Farmers and stakeholders identify challenges and innovation gaps.
  2. Co-Create Solutions: Experts collaborate with NIPs to develop and propose ideas for funding.
  3. Trial Innovations: On-farm or off-farm trials test solutions, supported by NNFs and robust evaluation protocols.
  4. Adopt & Share: Successful innovations are implemented, while lessons are shared widely through guides, workshops, and case studies.

Focus Areas:

  • Sustainability metrics for CCC systems aligned with Green Deal goals.
  • Market innovations to strengthen CCC product supply chains.
  • Digital tools like automated behavior monitoring.

Benefits:

  • Farmer-driven innovation ensures relevance and practicality.
  • Real-world trials enhance solution transferability.
  • Financial and expert support fosters collaboration and creativity.
